Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) is an independent, non-profit team of global social compliance experts. They help manufacturers and their suppliers to meet the standards of their countries’ socially responsible policies. WRAP is also studying how companies can improve the working conditions in manufacturing plants. WRAP ensures that products are made, from start to finish, according to all laws and regulations in the countries where they are manufactured, making it difficult for unethical practices to sneak into the production process. All the members of the WRAP team are academically qualified experts and provide unbiased information. WRAP is accredited by the International Accreditation Organization, which also makes sure that it follows ISO standards.
WRAP aims to promote the sustainable use of forests and wood products. The standard is primarily aimed at manufacturers of paper and wood products. They provide guidelines to manufacturers on how to select timber species, harvest them with care, and apply techniques to make them last longer in the forest. WRAP also promotes the need for natural resources management and environmental consciousness
Steps to WRAP Certification
WRAP Certification process centers on five steps:
- Application,
- self-assessment,
- monitoring,
- evaluation, and
- finally certification.
Application is where a company submits their information to the WRAP’s website. Submitting information includes completing a questionnaire and submitting documents related to the product they want to be certified. After submitting this information, a company waits for an initial response from the WRAP. This initial response can take anywhere from two weeks to six months depending on how long it takes for the application to be processed through the system. The self-assessment step is then performed by the applicant. This step allows companies to see what they need help with or what areas they should improve in before moving onto more complicated steps of the process. Monitoring is where companies track progress during their certification period. Here companies check that their products are meeting all aspects of the regulatory requirements and make sure that none of their products have been banned from any countries for not being up to par with standards set by law. Evaluation is where some form of evaluator evaluates if a company has met all requirements of both regulation and quality standards set by law. Finally, there is certification at the end of this phase when companies are authorized as able to sell their product in any country.
One of the main benefits is a variety of levels of certification. The different levels of certification for the program include silver, gold, and platinum. These levels are based on how long their certifications are valid.
- Silver can be used for six months,
- gold can be used for one year, and
- platinum can be used for two years.
