ISO 26000 is an international standard for business. It helps organizations in developing and implementing the sustainable development. This standard gives a guideline on how to make an organization socially responsible, which includes providing equal opportunities for all members of society as well as reducing their impact on the environment. It encourages organizations to go beyond the legal compliance and essential part of social responsibility.
This standard was introduced November 20, 2010 by the International Organization for Standardization and it is still currently being updated. It applies to all levels of an organization, including the board and management. It has two primary goals: “to contribute to international cooperation in the field of standardization and to make available worldwide a quality system.” ISO 26000 is designed to help with social compliance. Organizations using this standard need to set the vision for their sustainability, align the values with the vision, create an implementation strategy, and establish transparency in reporting.
The practice of integrating social responsibility into an organization’s practices includes communicating on social responsibility (talk about what you do), enhancing the creditability of an organization by giving back to society and the environment, and understanding a company’s relationship with society.

ISO 26000 cannot be certified
ISO 26000:2010 is guidance on social responsibility, not a management system standard. Its own scope says it is “not intended or appropriate for certification purposes”, and ISO and the IAF issued a joint statement that there would be no accredited certification to it. Any ISO 26000 certificate on offer is, in ISO’s own words, a misrepresentation of the standard. Where you need something genuinely certifiable in this space the honest answers are ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 37001 or ISO 37301 — each covering part of the ground — or SA8000 outside ISO.
